How to Set a Custom Domain

Setting a custom domain for your Help Center enhances your branding and makes it easier for users to access your support content. Instead of using a generic subdomain (e.g., yourcompany.helpcenter.com), you can link your Help Center to a domain of your choice (e.g., support.yourcompany.com). Here’s how you can set up a custom domain for your Help Center.

Steps to Set a Custom Domain:

  1. Log in to Your Account
  2. Access your Help Center dashboard and log in using your credentials.
  3. Go to Branding Settings
  4. In the top-right corner, click on your avatar to open the modal.
  5. In the modal, select the Domain tab in the left sidebar under Branding.
  6. Enter Your Custom Domain
  7. In the Custom Domain section, enter the domain name you want to use (e.g., support.yourcompany.com).
  8. Note: You must have already purchased and own the domain you wish to use.
  9. Configure Your DNS Settings
  10. After entering your custom domain, you will be prompted with instructions on how to update your DNS settings with your domain provider.
  11. You’ll need to create a CNAME record pointing your domain to the provided target address. This step may vary slightly depending on your domain registrar (e.g., GoDaddy, Namecheap, etc.), so follow the specific instructions given.
  12. This will check if your domain is properly configured.
  13. Save Changes
  14. Once your custom domain is verified, click Save Changes to finalize the setup.

Important Tips:

  1. DNS Propagation: Changes to DNS settings may take anywhere from a few minutes to up to 48 hours to propagate fully. Please be patient.
  2. SSL Certificates: When you set a custom domain, we automatically issue an SSL certificate for your domain. This ensures that your Help Center is secure and that it loads with HTTPS, providing an encrypted connection for your users. You don't need to manually configure or purchase an SSL certificate; we handle everything to ensure your domain remains secure.
  3. Support: If you encounter any issues or need additional help, check your domain provider’s support documentation or contact your Help Center’s support team.

By setting a custom domain for your Help Center, you provide a more professional and branded experience for your users, making it easier for them to find and access your support resources.
